CloseGuus Greve is an experienced dealmaker and is head of the Downstream Mergers and Acquisitions team (Vice President Downstream Acquisitions and Divestments). Guus went to University in Utrecht and Eindhoven (vrij doctoraal Chemistry/Business administration) and has a master's of marketing degree from Tilburg. His first role in Shell after joining in 1988 was marketing of polystyrene plastics in Shell’s Chemicals division, after which he worked in Pernis in manufacturing, as a deputy plant manager. His next role was abroad selling wax products from Shell's first Gas to Liquids plant, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Guus then rejoined Chemicals and was based in London from 1998 as a business manager in Base Chemicals and in this role he had his first experience with M&A projects. That was good experience for the next role when in 2004 Guus joined the portfolio team and worked on deals in Turkey, France, Russia, Italy and the USA.
From 2008 to 2012 Guus headed up the Rhine Supply and Distribution business leading and also as LSDR led the move to a new Shell Downstream office in Rotterdam. In 2013 Guus rejoined the portfolio team in London as the department head. Almost immediately after that, the workload for the portfolio team increased given the new direction set by the downstream directors, first Ben van Beurden and then John Abbott. Since then the team has achieved exits from the Harburg, Mongstad and CRC refineries as well as (most of the) the downstream business in Italy and Australia. There is more than only divestments as we also signed a JV for 500 new retail sites in Guangdong province in China and have announced the IPO of a part of our Pipeline business in the USA.
Guus is married to Georgette, lives in Northaw (near Potters Bar in Hertfordshire, UK) and together Guus and Georgette enjoy Golf, Skiing, Walking and going to the theatre.
