CloseMr. Geiser is the founder and Managing Partner of Juniper Capital Advisors and the head of the firm’s Investment Committee. Juniper, along with its affiliates, provides private equity capital to U.S. middle-market oil & gas companies and currently owns assets located in several key basins/plays. Juniper has raised over $1.2Bn in private capital since 2015 and is actively deploying that capital across its existing investments and seeking new investments.
Prior to Juniper, Mr. Geiser was a Managing Director at Och-Ziff Capital Management where he oversaw Och-Ziff’s private investing activity in the upstream and midstream oil & gas industries in the U.S.
Peter Kaufman is President and heads the firm’s Restructuring and Distressed M&A practice. He is also Co-founder and Managing Partner of Bacchus Capital Management, a private equity fund providing strategic capital in the wine industry.
He is the co-author of the definitive works in the field, Distressed Investment Banking: To the Abyss and Back – 2nd Edition and Equity Holders Under Siege: Strategies and Tactics for Distressed Businesses. He has been ranked the #1 national investment banker in financial restructurings by The Deal and is frequently asked by national TV networks and other media outlets to speak on restructuring and bankruptcy topics.
Mr. Kaufman has long history advising banking and insurance institution regulators, state governments and federal agencies over Gordian’s more than 30 years as a firm. Gordian Group has had over 300 engagements on behalf of companies, boards of directors, and shareholders (including entrepreneurs and private equity firms).
Mr. Kaufman received a B.A. with honors in History and Art History from Yale College (where he lettered in lacrosse), and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he graduated in the top quarter of his class.
Mr. Kaufman currently serves as an Adjunct Faculty/Lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law teaching a course entitled “Advising Boards of Directors Under Siege”; he also assists in teaching courses at Darden Business School at University of Virginia.
Mike Scott has over 25 years of private equity and energy industry experience. Mike founded Pelican Energy Partners in 2012 by bringing together a unique team of operationally focused executives with deep experience in oilfield manufacturing and service companies. He also assembled a group of investors that consists of over 30 former CEOs and 20 former energy company business owners, providing a rich resource for deal flow, relationships and industry expertise.
Prior to founding Pelican, Mike spent 4 years as a principal at Sorenson Capital Partners, a private equity firm in Salt Lake City, Utah with $650MM under management. During this time, he led 3 platform transactions in the energy services sectors and several transactions in other industry sectors. He served as chairman of the board of NCS Energy Services and a board director of Southeast Directional Drilling and M&M Pipeline.
Prior to joining Sorenson Capital Partners, Mike worked at Cameron International Corporation, a multi-national oilfield equipment company where he worked in corporate development and reported directly to the CFO. He also held various other management positions in global sourcing, project management and lean manufacturing, and he played a key role in implementing lean manufacturing techniques in manufacturing plants throughout the U.S. and Europe. Prior to attending business school, Mike spent 6 years in engineering roles at Valtek International Ltd. and AlliedSignal Inc., where he worked in product development and designed several new products for gas turbine based industrial power generation. He holds 5 patents and has received several design and technical achievement awards.
Mike received a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University and received an MBA from Harvard Business School.
J.W. Sikora is Managing Partner and co-founder of Cibolo Energy Partners. Mr. Sikora most recently served as a Principal with The Carlyle Group in the Energy Mezzanine Opportunities Group from 2013 through 2016. Based in Houston, Mr. Sikora’s responsibilities consisted of business development and origination of debt and equity investment opportunities in the upstream and midstream sectors, investment structuring, valuation, execution of legal documentation, due diligence, and ongoing portfolio management. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Sikora spent five and a half years as an Assistant Vice President with TCW/EIG Global Energy Partners in their Houston office. As a member of the EIG investment team, Mr. Sikora focused on mezzanine debt and equity investments made across the energy value chain in the upstream, midstream, mining, and power sectors. During his tenure at TCW/EIG, Mr. Sikora was involved in 17 financings totaling over $4.5 billion. His responsibilities included valuation, investment structuring, due diligence, and portfolio management. Prior to TCW/EIG, he was a Senior Analyst for NGPC Capital Resources and worked as a member of their investment team focused on mezzanine facilities provided to the energy industry. Mr. Sikora holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
Sean T. Wheeler is a corporate partner in the Houston office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. His practice focuses on securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance matters for companies in the energy industry.
He has led more than 30 IPOs since 2010, and, in 2016 alone, advised issuers and underwriters on more securities offerings than any other Texas-based partner.
