In addition to managing Mergermarket’s global team of journalists, Giovanni’s responsibilities include seeking new growth areas, moderating and speaking at M&A events and hiring new talent. He also comments regularly about the markets on TV and gives academic lectures. Giovanni joined Mergermarket in 2001 and has held a number of positions within the company, including Frankfurt Bureau Chief, Italian Correspondent, telecommunications, leisure and media reporter and research analyst. He is based in London.
Massimiliano Caraffa is a Private Equity professional with 17 years’ work experience in Private Equity and Management Consulting matured in top-tier global companies.
Mr Caraffa is a Director of Carlyle European Buyout team based in Milan, and is responsible for deal origination, execution, portfolio management and realizations in the Consumer & Retail sector across Europe.
Mr Caraffa is actively involved in Carlyle’s current investments in Design Holding (Furniture/Design); Golden Goose (Fashion/ retail); Hunkemoller (Fashion/Retail); Twinset Milano (Fashion/Retail); Comdata (Business Services), Irca (Industrial food) and Marelli Motori (Industrial), in each of those he is also a member of the Board of Directors. Moreover, Mr. Caraffa e has been involved in Moncler (Fashion/Retail) and Sematic (Industrial) where he served on the Board of Directors respectively from 2008 to 2011 and from 2015 to 2016 and participated in the portfolio management and exit of Avio spa (Aerospace and Defense).
Prior to joining Carlyle in 2004, Mr. Caraffa was a Business Analyst and Associate with McKinsey & Company in Milan for three years where he focused on telecom and financial services.
Mr. Caraffa received a MSc in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering magna cum laude from the University of Genoa and received an M.B.A. from INSEAD. He speaks Italian, English and Spanish.

Fabio Lorenzo Sattin is Executive Chairman and Founding Partner of Private Equity Partners Spa, and has over 30 years’ operational experience in the Private Equity industry both in Italy and abroad. He is Senior Adjunct Professor in Private Equity and Venture Capital at L. Bocconi University in Milan, and was Vice President and Managing Director at Chase Investment Bank (now J.P. Morgan), responsible for M&A and Equity Investment in New York, London and Milan. He is Chairman of EPS Equita PEP SPAC 2 Spa and of Equita PEP Holding Srl, member of the General Council of Private Equity of AIFI (Italian Private Equity Venture Capital and Private Debt Association), the MP3 Observatory on Public Private Partnerships of Bocconi University, the Scientific Committee of the Ca’ Foscari International College in Venice, the Past Chairmen Group of EVCA (European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association - now Invest Europe), the Advisory Board of the Italian Society of Financial Analysts (AIAF) and Faculty Member of AIFO Academy (Italian Family Officer Association). Marianna Vintiadis is Kroll’s Head of Southern Europe. A Cambridge-trained economist with experience in policy making and analysis, she works on business intelligence and complex investigations. Marianna has successfully developed Kroll’s client base which today includes Italy’s largest corporations and financial institutions as well as its leading law firms. She has also opened Kroll’s services to the Italian SME market, which forms the backbone of the Italian economy. Marianna is currently working on the development of the cyber market in Southern Europe.
