Panel: The deal outlook and current investment environment

Despite a notable slowdown in overall European fundraising in 2018, the Nordic region saw a significant rise in private equity funding with over €20bn raised last year. This resulted in the highest number of buyouts on Mergermarket record with 224 deals worth a combined €21.2bn as well as the joint-highest number of take-privates since the financial crisis. This panel will explore if the combination of a relatively stable macroeconomic environment compared to the rest of Europe and the highly desirable technology assets will see a continuation of strong investment in the Nordic region.

      1. -  How will the changing global geopolitical landscape and increasing trade tensions and other factors like populism affect investments in the Finnish market?
      2. -  Will increasing uncertainty lead to rise in divestments and carve-outs?
      3. -  Discrepancy between ask and bid – is it a buyer’s market?
      4. -  Is the IPO window closing? Will this lead to more dual track and take-privates?

Fireside Chat: How to navigate ESG

The importance placed on considering environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in investment decision making is growing stronger and Nordic funds have traditionally had a sustainable orientated ethical approach to investment. However, implementing a clear and cohesive ESG policy can become overwhelming given the wide range of factors to be considered as well as difficulties in assessing and benchmarking specific factors. This discussion will explore how firms can navigate the mounting risks of ignoring ESG but also reap the potential rewards on performance and returns.

      1. -  What specific social and environmental impacts do allocators look for?
      2. -  Best practices for ESG policies and PRI in private equity
      3. -  Risk profiles vs. returns
      4. -  How to ensure sustainable investments when working with international partners?
      5. -  Are ESG policies impactful enough and, realistically, what more can be done?
